Stephen is an experienced civil and criminal litigation attorney with a blended practice that focuses on civil litigation, school law, personal injury matters and employment litigation.
Prior to joining Wyrsch Hobbs Mirakian, Stephen served as the Lead Litigator and Interim Chief Legal Counsel in the legal department of Kansas City Public Schools. In this position, Stephen served as counsel on matters relating to due process claims, employment law claims, union negotiations and parental rights disputes. Additionally, Stephen tried 10 successful jury trials, served as lead counsel on 15 probationary / tenured teacher termination hearings and Co-created Justice in the Schools, a school-based legal client that offers free legal services to students and parents.
After law school Stephen worked as a Public Defender, where he zealously defended clients charged with various criminal matters. In this role Stephen obtained invaluable trial experienced, learned the value of listening before speaking and worked extensively with the internship program.
